About our engraving process:
Our crystal engraving process is called sand carving. Also known as sand blasting, it is the method we use to delicately engrave our products. This method is widely regarded as the superior method of permanently engraving glass and is renowned for producing stunningly beautiful and detailed results. Sand carving is accomplished by directing a fine stream of abrasive material projected with compressed air, to permanently engrave crystal, glass, stone and other materials. This process creates visible depth and dimension. Sand carving is still done, as it has been for over 100 years, completely by hand.
Our commitment to the environment:
Environmental issues are the elements of sustainability that are most commonly confronted by businesses and their customers today. Epic Engraving has embraced the green philosophy and adopted policies which will reduce our carbon footprint, promote sustainabililty and encourage recycling wherever possible. Some of these policies include:
- A "paperless" invoicing and engraving proof program, done entirely via email.
- In-house paper, cardboard and plastic recycling
- Management of our facility environment control during non-operational hours
- Employee carpooling program
The demand for sustainable protective packaging is driven by environmentally conscious consumers and is part of a growing trend to move away from oil-based plastic materials towards materials that are renewable, recyclable and compostable. When our products are shipped to customers, they are packed using Geämi Sustainable Protective Packaging or biodegradable cornstarch packing peanuts. These materials are environmentally friendly products and may be placed in your curbside recycling bin or your company's recycling container.
What you should know about plastic and packaging:
- Plastic is made from oil, a non-renewable resource.
- 8% of oil is converted into plastic.
- Over 50% of all packaging is made of plastic.
- In 2005, of the 13.7 tons of plastic packaging disposed of in municpal solid waste sites, only 9.4% was actually recovered.
- Oil-based plastic packaging is not compostable.
